SECURITY CONTROL SPECIALIST
Pay Grade T07
Basic Function
Under moderate supervision, assigned to Metros Emergency Response Center to monitor security related technology, to detect threats, customer code of conduct violations, and criminal activity. |
Classification Characteristics
The Security Control Specialist differs from the Transit Security Officer (TSO) in that the TSO provides physical security for Metro employees and property, while the Security Control Specialist detects threats with security related technology in Metros Emergency Response Center. |

Examples of Duties
- Utilizes behavioral analytics to detect threats, customer code violations, and criminal activity

Monitors radio communications to determine the need for security assistance and/or intervention from available resources

Receives Reports of crime, suspicious activities, citizens complaints, and general inquiries

Assigns, coordinates, and dispatches field units in response to requests for service and/or observed activity utilizing all of Metros assignment frequencies
-
Advises responding units of potential problem areas and monitors field unit activities

Enters and compiles data relating to calls into the Metros Computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system and prepares reports, as required
-
Coordinates with law enforcement personnel, other security personnel and Metro staff as necessary

Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the SECURITY CONTROL SPECIALIST position MUST meet
the following requirements:
- High school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or California High School Equivalency Exam Certificate

2 years experience performing security or law enforcement-related services and support duties

Valid California Class C driver's license preferred

Special Conditions
- Must be able to obtain a California Security Guard Card

Must be able to obtain Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) Dispatcher Training Certification within 12 months of hire date
-
May be required to work various shifts, including 2nd and 3rd shift, consecutive shifts, and overtime

May be required to work holidays and weekends
-
May be exposed to volatile or life threatening situations
