Basic Function
Under close supervision, assists in developing transit schedules, Operator workrun assignments, and related documents. |
Classification Characteristics
Differs from Schedule Maker II in that Schedule Maker I performs entry-level schedule making work, while Schedule Maker II performs journey-level schedule making work. |

Examples of Duties
- Learns and assists in performing the following technical duties
-
Develops and revises bus and rail transit operating schedules according to guidelines and other available schedule data

Develops Operators workruns in accordance with labor agreements
-
Utilizes computer software to assist in the development of schedules, workruns, vehicle hour, mileage, and patronage statistics
-
Develops and maintains statistical records regarding schedules, personnel requirements, and equipment requirements
-
Prepares, orders, and proofreads schedule materials prior to publication
-
Analyzes and responds in writing to operations personnel and patron complaint letters recommended changes
-
Participates in test trips of new or revised transit routes
-
Visits various operating divisions to exchange information with operating personnel regarding service requirements
-
Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Large-scale transit operations and routes

Ability to:
- Manipulate and analyze data using arithmetic formulas and detailed procedures

Perform arithmetic and basic statistical calculations rapidly and accurately

Read and understand rules, policies, maps, and schedules

Operate a calculator

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the SCHEDULE MAKER I position MUST meet
the following requirements:
- One years transit operations, transit scheduling, or other transit-related experience utilizing transit routes and schedules

Training or experience using microcomputer software is highly desirable

Associates Degree in a related field desirable

Special Conditions
- Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required
