SR SERVICE ATTENDANT LEADER
Pay Grade A21

Basic Function
Under close supervision, performs unskilled servicing and cleaning of revenue and non-revenue equipment, including automobiles, buses and rail cars.

Classification Characteristics
The Sr. Service Attendant Leader differs from the Service Attendant in that the Sr. Service Attendant Leader oversees and coordinates the daily activities of a group of Sr. Service Attendants and assigns tasks within a work crew. The Sr. Service Attendant Leader communicates and implements safety rules, policies, and procedures and maintains accountability for the safety of assigned employees. A Leader receives additional pay for each hour worked as stipulated by the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.

Examples of Duties
  • Generic Steam cleans parts and equipment and seats Cleans, sweeps, mops and removes graffiti from vehicle interiors Cleans interiors and exteriors of rail cars, including sweeping, scrubbing, polishing, cleaning and replacing windows and seat cushions, collecting trash, and removing graffiti Assists skilled personnel in changing filters, draining oil, wheel truing and other non-skilled work required for the maintenance of rail vehicles Operates cleaning machines, including wet/dry vacuuming equipment, floor scrubbers, grout hogs, and high-pressure stream/hot water cleaners Cleans component parts and undercarriage of rail vehicles with high-pressure steam/hot water and/or air compression equipment Operates forklifts, powered carts, and similar equipment to load, unload, and move supplies and equipment Sweeps, mops, and cleans maintenance shops, restrooms, offices, work pits, and yard areas Bus Checks levels and dispenses diesel fuel, engine oil, and engine coolant Records quantities of liquids dispensed on manual logs and enters data into the Vehicle Maintenance System Checks tire pressure of vehicles and adds air as needed Drives buses through bus wash stations and around the yard Aligns buses with vacuum system and air blows debris out of coaches Parks buses in designated areas of maintenance facility Removes and replaces farebox vaults of buses returning from services and dumps contents into safes Rail (Incumbents may be assigned, as needed, at either the Light or Heavy rail cars and job duties may differ depending on work assignment) Flags and spots rail vehicles in and out the shop and yard under power Applies and removes (lockout/tag out) high voltage power of rail vehicles for cleaning & servicing Cleans and services rail vehicles on the main line Blue flags a rail vehicle in the yard, shops, and on the mainline in emergency situations Leads employees by assigning work and providing training
  • Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Automotive cleaning and servicing Vehicle operations and safety Custodial work

Ability to:
  • Follow oral and written instructions Communicate effectively with others Clean, fuel, and service automobiles, buses, and train cars Safely operate cleaning equipment and a variety of hand and power tools Tolerate various working conditions, including extended exposure to outdoors, noise, unpleasant odors, heavy-duty cleaning chemicals, fumes, and all types of weather Safely operate Metro vehicles Lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds Travel to offsite locations within a reasonable timeframe Read, write, speak, and understand English

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the SR SERVICE ATTENDANT LEADER position MUST meet the following requirements:

  • Two years’ full-time experience performing vehicle cleaning and servicing OR Two years’ full-time experience performing custodial work Valid California Class C driver's license
