Pay Grade A33

Machinist is an Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) journey-level position. It differs from the Machinist Leader (ATU) in that a Machinist sets up and operates machines and precision hand tools to cut, shape, and finish metals and products used for the manufacture, assembly, installation, and repair of vehicle and equipment parts while a Machinist Leader oversees and coordinates the daily activities of a group of Machinists and assignes tasks within a work crew. The Machinist Leader communicates and implements safety rules, policies, and procedures and maintains accountability for the safety of assigned employees. A Leader receives additional pay for each hour worked as stipulated by the appropriate collective bargaining agreement. Assignments are in the form of oral or written instructions and may be accompanied by sketches, plans, blueprints and worn, broken or sample parts. There is latitude for determining specific work methods and the work is subject to inspection in progress and upon completion. |
