Basic Function
Under close supervision, picks up and delivers documents to different departments in the headquarters building; performs other related duties. |
Classification Characteristics
Differs from Mail Carrier in that the messenger clerk is responsible for pick up and delivery of U.S Mail, documents, and data processing printouts to various departments in the headquarters building, while Mail Carrier picks up an delivers documents and U.S. Mail to all District locations. |
Supervised by: Computer Operations Supervisor, or General Services Supervisor

Examples of Duties
- Picks up and delivers documents to different departments in the Headquarters building using push cart

Stocks computer room with computer and Xerox paper, tapes, and supplies

Maintains simple office inventory records

Operates photocopier to duplicate materials

Breaks down and distributes computer generated users`

Inputs names and addresses into department computer terminal for identification of work location

Assist in establishing and maintaining security of District data processing systems, equipment, and facilities

May Operate District vehicle to pick up and deliver documents to various District locations
-
May act as receptionist as needed

Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- General office practices and procedures

Vehicle operation and safety

Safety rules regarding stoking, transporting, and distributing materials

Ability to:
- Safely operate a District vehicle

Maintain inventory records

Stock, transport, and distribute materials

Follow oral and written instructions

Lift and move objects weighing up to 75 pounds

Do repetitive bending, stooping and lifting

Read, write, speak, and understand English

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the MESSENGER CLERK position MUST meet
the following requirements:
- Six months experience performing clerical duties

Must have a valid California Class C drivers license
