Under moderate supervision, this security sensitive position conducts fare checks, provides customer service, maintains security situational awareness, and issues citations. |
Classification Characteristics
Transit Security Officer I is an unarmed uniformed security sensitive position that provides customer service to Metros riders. Transit Security Officer I works at various Metro locations with local law enforcement, and other government agencies. |
Supervised by: Transit Security Lieutenant; Transit Security Sergeant; Sr Transit Security Officer

Examples of Duties
- Provides customer service to Metro riders

Conducts fare inspections, security train checks, and crowd control

Enforces Metros Customer Code of Conduct

Issues electronic citations
-
Coordinates outreach to Metro riders
-
Works with local law enforcement and other government agencies
-
Assist law enforcement and effect an arrest as needed
-
Prepare written reports
-
Notifies Metro authorities of equipment malfunctions and security concerns
-
Observes and reports on security and safety issues
-
Maintains security situational awareness for behavioral threats to Metro patrons, property, and buildings
-
Records daily activities in log
-
Assigned to assist in special events
-
Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Knowledge of:

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the TRANSIT SECURITY OFFICER I position MUST meet
the following requirements:
- 21 years of age
-
High School Diploma or GED
-
6 months of experience as a security guard preferred
-
Must be able to obtain a California Guard Card issued by the Department of Consumer Affairs within 6 months of hire date
-
Uncorrected vision: no more than 20/70 in both eyes; normal color vision
-
Valid California Class C drivers license

Special Conditions
- Exposure to various types of hazards and conditions
-
Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD)

Must have normal color vision
-
Required to push/pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds
-
