Basic Function
Under close supervision, processes the revenue from Metros bus divisions and Ticket Vending Machines, while using coin and currency counting equipment. |
Classification Characteristics
Differs from the Revenue Collector in that Cash Clerk processes the revenue from bus division and Ticket Vending Machines while the Revenue Collector is responsible for operating Metros armored vehicles and retrieving the revenue from Metros Bus Divisions and Ticket Vending Machines. |

Examples of Duties
- Operates and monitors coin and currency counting machines

Records beginning and ending meter readings to determine revenue by division

Empties contents of cash vaults and sorts out currency and revenue tickets

Bags, seals, weigh, and tags paper currency
-
Seals, weighs, and tags coin bags
-
Collects Fare Media throughout Metros bus and rail system

Assigns vault carts to respective divisions

Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Basic arithmetic

Safety rules related to cash counting office work

Ability to:
- Follow oral and written instructions

Communicate effectively with others

Operate coin and currency counting machines

Perform simple arithmetical computations and tabulate figures with speed and accuracy

Prepare deposit slips and record information on logs and reports

Interact professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives

Maneuver mobile safes weighing up to 50 pounds

Stand, bend, stoop, and work on irregular surfaces
-
Work in an enclosed and noisy environment

Read, write, speak, and understand English

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the CASH CLERK position MUST meet
the following requirements:
- 6 months of experience performing cashiering or clerical accounting duties

Special Conditions
- Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required

Must pass a security clearance check
