WELDER LEADER
Pay Grade A40
Basic Function
Under moderate supervision, welds, fabricates, and repairs a variety of metal parts, vehicles, and facilities/support equipment |
Classification Characteristics
Welder is an Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) journey-level position. It differs from the Welder Leader (ATU) in that a Welder welds, fabricates, and repairs a variety of metal parts, vehicles, and facilities/support equipment while a Welder Leader oversees and coordinates the daily activities of a group of Welders and assigns tasks within a work crew. The Welder Leader communicates and implements safety rules, policies, and procedures and maintains accountability for the safety of assigned employees. A Leader receives additional pay for each hour worked as stipulated by the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
Differs from Sheet Metal Worker in that Welder primarily welds metal parts made by the Sheet Metal Worker and fabricates parts from metals heavier than 3/16", while Sheet Metal Worker diagrams, fabricates, and installs various sheet metal parts and structures from sheet metal up to 3/16" thickness. |
