VEHICLE VERIFICATION CLERK
Pay Grade B76

Basic Function
Under moderate supervision, obtains State vehicle ownership certificates, registrations, and license plates, and maintains current listings for all revenue and non-revenue vehicles operated by Metro's.

Work Environment
In order to achieve Metro’s goals in support of its mission, potential candidates are required to commit and continuously practice and demonstrate the following work values:

Examples of Duties
  • Prepares and processes documents to obtain the original registration for all revenue and non-revenue Metro vehicles
  • Prepares and processes documents to obtain special confidential licensing and annual renewals of police non-exempt vehicles
  • Assigns unit numbers to every Metro vehicle purchased
  • Maintains and updates information on all Metro vehicles in the vehicle maintenance system
  • Forwards vehicle ownership certificates to the Metro Secretary’s Office and performs periodic audits of accountability
  • Develops schedules and prepares and processes documents to obtain State and County transportation permits for tow trucks, sweepers, and miscellaneous equipment
  • Maintains a current State of California Manual of registration procedures
  • Prepares and processes all replacement orders for lost or damaged license plates for all vehicles
  • Prepares and processes documents relating to the sale and purchase of Metro vehicles
  • Identifies recalls by the manufacturer and forwards a request to the division to have the vehicles repaired
  • Provides instruction on and oversees the use of Declaration of Instruction notices
  • Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • General office practices and procedures
  • State vehicle licensing and registration laws, rules, and procedures for exempt vehicles
  • Basic mathematics
  • Complex recordkeeping

Ability to:
  • Follow oral and written instructions
  • Communicate effectively with others
  • Perform manual and computerized recordkeeping
  • Type 40 net words per minute
  • Utilize a calculator to perform basic mathematical functions
  • Read, enter, and verify data on a computer terminal
  • Prepare correspondence and reports
  • Maintain manual and computerized recordkeeping systems
  • File materials alphabetically, numerically, and chronologically
  • Travel to offsite locations within a reasonable timeframe
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the VEHICLE VERIFICATION CLERK position MUST meet the following requirements:

  • 3 years’ experience performing manual and computerized recordkeeping and other complex clerical work, including 2 years’ experience performing licensing and registering vehicles
  • Valid California Class C driver’s license

Special Conditions
  • Must be able to obtain a California verifier’s permit and a Surety bond
