ROVING JANITOR
Pay Grade A43

Basic Function
Under close supervision, cleans and stocks the restroom facilities at bus layover zones.

Classification Characteristics
There is a Roving Janitor Leader who in addition to the regular Roving Janitor duties, is responsible for assigning duties and directing employees in the performance of their work under the supervision of his/her immediate supervisor with whom he/she shall consult in all matters affecting such work. A Leader receives additional pay for each hour worked as stipulated by the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.

Work Environment
In order to achieve Metro’s goals in support of its mission, potential candidates are required to commit and continuously practice and demonstrate the following work values:

Examples of Duties
  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms
  • Sweeps and washes floors and sidewalks
  • Hauls trash to nearest division for dumping
  • Loads truck with cleaners, soap, toilet paper, and paper towels and informs supervisor when stock is low
  • Stocks restroom facilities with supplies
  • Notifies supervisor of facility deficiencies
  • Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Methods and materials utilized in custodial work
  • Vehicle operations and safety

Ability to:
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions and procedures
  • Communicate effectively with others
  • Lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Tolerate exposure to strong, harmless odors
  • Safely operate Metro vehicles
  • Read and follow street maps
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the ROVING JANITOR position MUST meet the following requirements:

  • 1 years’ full-time experience performing custodial work
  • Valid California Class C driver’s license

Special Conditions
  • Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required
