Basic Function
Under moderate supervision, receives material at the Central Warehouse requiring interface with the Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS). |
Classification Characteristics
Differs from Stock Clerk in that Receiving Clerk performs work involving the processing and receipt of material requiring interface with the ASRS, while Stock Clerk performs work involving the storage, picking, issuance, and inventory of vehicle parts and other materials. |

Examples of Duties
- Processes and receives material requiring interface with the ASRS, including repair and return items, Rebuild orders, cores, division credits, purchase orders, direct purchases, and other related items, which requires the use of a forklift

Verifies and confirms the receipt of material with delivery personnel, documenting exceptions on bills of lading or packing slips

Uses a Microsoft Windows-based computerized program to access Metros inventory control system to identify, retrieve, enter, or update storeroom and warehouse data

Creates appropriate lot sizing (receipt quantities) to fully maximize space utilization of storage bins or pallets within the ASRS; adjusts and corrects loads at the reject area for acceptance into the ASRS

Responds to inquiries from various locations regarding the status of material in the receiving area and researches system data to provide receipt information

Follows Materiel Departments guidelines and procedures in processing material and supplies

Cleans and maintains work area

Performs duties of a lower classification during periods of system malfunctions, production changes, or reduced deliveries

Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Basic warehousing and inventory control practices

Basic operations of material handling equipment utilized, eg forklifts, hand trucks, etc

Nomenclature of parts, tools, and equipment used in a bus, rail, or automotive repair shop

Trade manuals and parts catalogs covering bus, rail, or automotive equipment

Computerized recordkeeping and related data entry procedures

Ability to:
- Receive, transport, and distribute parts and materials

Practice Metro's inventory control procedures

Operate basic warehousing equipment such as weight scales, banding machines, and counting scales

Maintain receipt records and logs
-
Independently lift and move objects weighing up to 55 pounds; lift and move objects weighing over 80 pounds with assistance

Safely operate supply trucks, forklifts, and Metro vehicles
-
Operate a computer to enter and retrieve data
-
Follow oral and written instructions
-
Interact professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives

Communicate effectively with others

Travel to offsite locations within a reasonable timeframe

Read, write, speak, and understand English

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the RECEIVING CLERK position MUST meet
the following requirements:
- One year experience performing clerical, stock, warehouse, or inventory control work

Experience must include operation of a forklift
-
Possession of a forklift certification/license or the ability to obtain a forklift certification/license within the first two weeks assigned to the Receiving Clerk job classification

Valid California Class C drivers license

Special Conditions
- Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required
