RAIL BODY/PAINT REPAIRER LEADER
Pay Grade A28
Basic Function
| Under moderate supervision, performs minor body and paint repairs on light rail vehicles while leading Rail Body/Paint Repairers by assigning work and providing training. |
Classification Characteristics
| Rail Body and Paint Repairer is an Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) journey-level position. It differs from the Rail Body and Paint Repairer Leader (ATU) in that a Rail Body and Paint Repairer performs minor body and paint repairs on light rail vehicles while a Rail Body and Paint Repairer Leader oversees and coordinates the daily activities of a group of Rail Body and Paint Repairers and assigns tasks within a work crew. The Rail Body and Paint Repairer Leader communicates and implements safety rules, policies, and procedures and maintains accountability for the safety of assigned employees. A Leader receives additional pay for each hour worked as stipulated by the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
Differs from Body Repairer "A" in that Rail Body and Paint Repairer repairs minor body and paint damage on rail vehicles, while Body Repairer "A" repairs body damage on buses. |

Examples of Duties
- Repairs body and paint damage to the interior and exterior of the light rail vehicles

Removes vehicle parts such as headlights to perform repairs on the damaged areas

Uses welding equipment to repair damage

Mixes paints, matches colors, and paints vehicle surfaces with electrostatic/high volume low pressure (HVLP) spray guns

Responds to emergency body repair and maintenance requirements of rail vehicles

Leads employees by assigning work and providing training

Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

- Methods, materials, equipment, and safety procedures utilized in the repair and painting of rail vehicles bodies

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the RAIL BODY/PAINT REPAIRER LEADER position MUST meet
the following requirements:
- 2 year’s experience in paint and body repair of cars, trucks, or rail vehicles and six months’ welding experience
- Successful completion of a full time training from an accredited school in paint and body repair may be substituted for an equivalent amount of actual work experience

Valid California Class C driver’s license

Special Conditions
- Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required

Must be able to work on any one of three shifts and weekends

May be exposed to weather, chemical, electrical, and physical hazards when performing duties
