PHOTOLITHOGRAPH PROCESSING OPERATOR

Basic Function
Under moderate supervision, processes digital prepress jobs in a timely manner using various computers, workstations, and output devices in the Digital Prepress Area. |
Classification Characteristics
Differs from Printer II in that Photolithographic Process Operator primarily operates computer workstations for Prepress operations, and output of posters, banners and other materials while Printer II primarily operates large multicolor offset printing presses. |

Examples of Duties
- Examines incoming files for suitability, imports files into the appropriate application software, edits files to facilitate and assure correct output, and outputs files in proper format to the appropriate output deivce

Inspects output material to assure conformance to agency specifications and if necessary, contacts designers to clarify requirements and assist in preparing files for use

Utilizes Prinect imposition and Prinect Cockpit software

Compares completed file to job order to ensure trapping is correct

Maintains files of projects and printing plates
-
Performs routine maintenance on assigned equipment
-
Prints large format posters, banners, other projects from PDF files and other customer media
-
Utilizes mounting equipment and specialty cutters
-
Operates other Print Shop equipment as assigned

May oversee and coordinate the work of employees on the assigned shift in the absence of the supervisor

Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Functions and operation of computer equipment and large format printers

Prinect and Prinect Cockpit imposition software
-
Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Indesign, and Adobe Illustrator

Safety rules for print shops

Ability to:
- Operate Prinect Prepress Interface

Open, create, manipulate, debug and process files at the application and Postscript level
-
Scan, size, color balance, manipulate and place images as necessary

Maintain and set up large format printers

Follow instructions

Demonstrate good housekeeping

Maintain and monitor supply inventory and inform supervisor when supplies are needed

Lift up to 50 pounds safely and properly

Tolerate noisy working conditions

Stand for extended periods of time

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the PHOTOLITHOGRAPH PROCESSING OPERATOR position MUST meet
the following requirements:
- 4 years' experience performing electronic prepress duties, using imposition and various Adobe software and related equipment

Special Conditions
- Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required
