Basic Function
Under supervision, processes changes in payroll data and audits, verifies and reconciles payroll adjustments. |
Classification Characteristics
Differs from Account Payable Clerk in that Payroll Clerk performs payroll related functions, while Accounts Payable Clerk processes vendors invoices. |

Examples of Duties
- Batches Form 172 adjustment sheets for current and prior payroll periods

Uses computer terminal to input data from the adjustment sheets, deduction updates, canceled checks, advances, refunds, and final settlement reports into the system

Prepares special checks for payroll advance payments, refunds, and final settlements

Reviews computer edit of payroll input for accuracy

Prepares corrections for errors, documents adjustments, and enters data into the system

Computes tax deductions for specified exemptions, using appropriate tables

Balances batch inputs and corrections to the bi-weekly payrolls
-
Files payroll reports including “PAR”, “PIR”, and financial controls
-
Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the PAYROLL CLERK position MUST meet
the following requirements:
- 6 months experience performing payroll functions and other responsible clerical accounting duties
