Basic Function
Under moderate supervision, moves, installs, and maintains a variety of complex machine tools, power tools, hand tools, and other shop equipment. |
Classification Characteristics
Differs from Property Maintainer in that Millwright moves, installs, maintains, repairs, and rebuilds complex machine tools and shop equipment such as brake lathes and milling machines, while Property Maintainer performs preventive and remedial maintenance of shop and bus servicing equipment, in addition to a broad range of other property maintenance work. |

Examples of Duties
- Maintains and repairs brake lathes and other machine tools

Maintains and repairs milling machines, surface grinders, dynamometers, and other shop equipment

Moves and installs shop equipment

Rebuilds hand tools and other apparatus such as fuel nozzles and jacks
-
Assists Maintenance Mechanics in their duties when workloads require it

Drives a maintenance vehicle to work locations at various Metro facilities
-
Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Methods, materials, equipment, safety procedures of the Millwright trade

Shop math

Vehicle operations and safety

Ability to:
- Move, install, maintain, and repair industrial equipment

Read and work from blueprints, schematics and sketches
-
Follow oral and written instructions

Lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds
-
Travel to offsite locations within a reasonable timeframe

Read, write, speak, and understand English

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the MILLWRIGHT position MUST meet
the following requirements:
- 4 years experience as a Millwright or performing a directly related trade; OR successful completion of departmental Personnel Qualification Standards for Millwright

Up to 2 years full-time training or education in a directly related field from a recognized trade school or apprenticeship program may be substituted for equivalent experience

Valid Class A California drivers license

- Must provide own tools of trade

Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required
