Basic Function
Under moderate supervision, delivers mail and supplies at various Metro locations. |
Classification Characteristics
Differs from Messenger Clerk in that Mail Carrier picks up and delivers Metro and U.S. mail to all Metro locations while Messenger Clerk picks up and delivers mail to the various departments within Metro headquarters only.
Differs from Mail and Duplicating Clerk in that Mail Carrier picks up and delivers mail to various Metro locations while Mail and Duplicating Clerk makes copies of various documents in addition to processing and distributing departmental mail. |

Examples of Duties
- Sorts, weighs, bundles, and labels Metro mail

Operates Metro vehicle to pick up and deliver mail and supplies to various Metro locations

Loads and unloads mail and supplies to and from Metro vehicle

Records beginning and ending mileage in log book

Operates inserting and labeling machine

Uses push cart in delivering mail within headquarters building

Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- General office practice and procedures

Vehicle operation rules and regulations

Safety rules to be observed

Ability to:
- Safely operate Metro vehicles

Sort, weigh, bundle, transport, and distribute mail and supplies

Follow oral and written instructions

Lift and move objects weighing up to 75 pounds

Do repetitive bending, stooping and lifting

Interact professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives

Communicate effectively with others

Travel to offsite locations within a reasonable timeframe

Read, write, speak, and understand English

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the MAIL CARRIER position MUST meet
the following requirements:
- Possession of a forklift certification/license

Valid California Class C drivers license
