LEAD CASH CLERK
Pay Grade B74

Basic Function
Under close supervision, operates coin counting equipment and bags and weighs currency to prepare manifests for total revenue received while leading Cash Clerks by assigning work and providing training.

Classification Characteristics
There is a Lead Cash Clerk who in addition to the regular Cash Clerk duties, is responsible for assigning duties and directing employees in the performance of their work under the supervision of his/her immediate supervisor with whom he/she shall consult in all matters affecting such work. A Leader receives additional pay for each hour worked as stipulated by the appropriate collective bargaining agreement..

Work Environment

Examples of Duties
  • Operates and monitors coin counting machines
  • Records beginning and ending meter readings to determine revenue by division
  • Empties contents of cash vaults and sorts out currency and revenue tickets
  • Bags, seals, weighs, and tags paper currency
  • Seals, weighs, and tags coin bags
  • Prepares bank deposit slips and manifests for empty cash vaults
  • Assigns vault carts to respective divisions
  • Leads employees by assigning work and providing training
  • Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Basic arithmetic
  • Safety rules related to cash counting office work

Ability to:
  • Follow oral and written instructions
  • Communicate effectively with others
  • Operate coin counting machines
  • Perform simple arithmetical computations and tabulate figures with speed and accuracy
  • Prepare deposit slips and record information on logs and reports
  • Interact professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives
  • Maneuver mobile safes weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Stand, bend, stoop, and work on irregular surfaces
  • Work in an enclosed and noisy environment
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the LEAD CASH CLERK position MUST meet the following requirements:

  • 6 months of experience performing cashiering or clerical accounting duties

Special Conditions
  • Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required
  • Subject to periodic, unannounced searches of his/her person and belongings
  • Must pass a security clearance check
