To supervise personnel engaged in custodial and other building maintenance services for various Metro locations. |

Supervises: Lead Mopper Waxer; Lead Custodian; Mopper Waxer; Janitor; Custodian

Examples of Duties
- Plans and monitors custodial maintenance work for various Metro locations

Travels to various Metro facilities to monitor work performance of subordinate staff
-
Oversees provision of routine repairs and general maintenance of buildings, office equipment, and furniture
-
Recommends and schedules repairs of equipment, furnishings, and facilities
-
Maintains inventory of custodial supplies and equipment
-
Prepares reports, correspondence, purchase verifications and data for budget preparation
-
Provides safety training to staff

Supervises subordinate staff
-
Inspects work in progress and completed projects
-
Utilizes a computer based information system to process work orders, incidents, timesheets, and material requests
-
Supervises a multi-skilled staff in a variety of locations conducting performance evaluations
-
Accounts for subordinate and personal compliance with all of Metros safety rules, polices, and procedures

Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Theories, principles, and practices of building maintenance and custodial work

Tools, equipment, and supplies utilized in maintenance and janitorial work
-
Principles of supervision

Ability to:
- Plan, organize, and monitor custodial maintenance activities

Communicate effectively orally and in writing

Prepare reports and correspondence

Utilize a personal computer and required software

Analyze situations, identify problems, and recommend solutions

Understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, contracts, budgets, and labor/management agreements

Interact professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives

Supervise subordinate staff

Travel to offsite locations within a reasonable timeframe

Read, write, speak, and understand English

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the GENERAL SERVICES SUPERVISOR position MUST meet
the following requirements:
- 3 years experience performing building maintenance or custodial work with a minimum of one year experience working in a lead or supervisory capacity in building maintenance or custodial work

Must have completed or be able to complete Metros pre-supervisory training within probationary period

Valid California Class C driver license

Bachelors degree in Business Administration or related field is highly desirable

Special Conditions
- Exposure to weather and physical hazards

Frequent travel to other Metro locations

May be assigned to work varied shifts and weekends
-
Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required
