Basic Function
Under moderate supervision, receives, distributes, and maintains transit brochures, bus schedules, racks, and related materials at designated locations. |
Classification Characteristics
Differs from General Clerk I in that General Clerk/ Marketing distributes and maintains transit brochures and related materials at designated locations, while General Clerk I reviews the preparation and maintenance of varied departmental records ranging from routine to complicated, and serves as a resource person regarding departmental policies and procedures and related matters.
Differs from General Clerk in that General Clerk/ Marketing distributes and maintains transit brochures and related materials and designated locations, while General Clerk maintains complicated Metro-wide and departmental records. |

Examples of Duties
- Operates a Metro vehicle to deliver bus schedules, brochures, and racks to various designated locations

Prepares, packs, and seals packages/boxes for mailing out of schedules, brochures and related materials to libraries, city halls, and other locations which receive such information by mail

Maintains materials on display racks neatly and ensures that racks are fully supplied and materials updated

Accesses database via computer to update and print mailing labels of locations, which receive such information by mail

Keeps mezzanine timetable room stocked, neatly organized, and supplied with updated timetables (schedules) provided by the Print Shop

Provides transit-related information to patrons when requested during assignments

Works as a Ticket Clerk, as required

Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- General office practices and procedures

Principles of customer service

Ability to:
- Safely operate a vehicle and a hand cart

Utilize a map book

Deal tactfully with the public and other departmental personnel

Lift and move objects weighing up to 60 pounds

Travel to offsite locations within a reasonable timeframe

Read, write, speak, and understand English

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the GENERAL CLERK/MARKETING position MUST meet
the following requirements:
- 1 year of experience performing responsible clerical and public contact duties

Valid California Class C driver's license

Special Conditions
- When working as a Customer Service Agent, must be personally accountable for all money and stock received

Subject to periodic, unannounced audits of funds and stock
