To provide training in the maintenance and repair of facilities and other related equipment. |

Examples of Duties
- Conducts classroom and individualized training on multi-craft Facilities Maintenance, including electrical and electronic systems, mechanical systems, equipment, signage, bus and rail service support, and building and grounds property maintenance

Prepares lesson plans, schedules, and testing performance exams

Provides hands-on demonstration in the repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment

Conducts High Rail certification and recertification training
-
Conducts NFPA training relative to Los Angeles City Regulation Number 4 requirements

Provides or coordinates specialized training on equipment such as forklifts, cranes, and washers
-
Develops electrical and mechanical training and testing materials
-
Coordinates specialized and developmental training needs with division heads
-
Reports to various work locations to provide training and/or technical support to facilities maintenance personnel
-
Keeps abreast with current electrical and mechanical technology by attending vendor training sessions
-
Provides orientation to personnel on lighting maintenance
-
Keeps abreast of Federal, state, and local electrical codes
-
Establishes safety guidelines on maintenance procedures
-
Coordinates with General Services on custodial requirements and procedures
-
Interviews and tests applicants
-
Operates shop and field tools and equipment related to facilities maintenance for demonstration purposes
-
Reviews, updates, and distributes new manuals and training materials
-
Provides orientation to personnel on new equipment and systems
-
Analyzes vendor training materials
-
Prepares reports and correspondence
-
Reviews and participates in facilities and equipment-related accidents investigations
-
Serves as technical expert for troubleshooting electrical and mechanical maintenance problems

Analyzes situations, identify problems, and recommend solutions
-
Develops and assesses safety programs
-
Advises on technical issues to other department personnel

Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Theories, principles, and practices of repair and electrical and mechanical components and systems related to facilities maintenance

Mechanical and electrical design, construction, installation, maintenance practices, procedures, methods, and equipment found in a manufacturing or maintenance facility environment

Federal, state, and local electrical codes
-
Safe electrical procedures

Safe and proper use of tools and other equipment

Read and understand blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics
-
Applicable safety, environmental, and vehicle laws, rules, and regulations

Development of curricula, learning objectives, lesson plans, and assessment techniques

Methods, materials, equipment, and safety procedures utilized in custodial work

Ability to:
- Plan, organize, and monitor training of skilled personnel in maintenance and repair of equipment and related systems

Obtain a California Class "A" driver license during probationary period

Communicate effectively orally and in writing

Travel to offsite locations within a reasonable timeframe

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the FACILITIES MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTOR position MUST meet
the following requirements:
- Associate's degree in related field or equivalent training from a recognized college or trade school
-
3 years experience performing work or training in the repair or maintenance of facilities operations
-
Valid California Class C driver's license
-
Experience as outlined above may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis

Special Conditions
- Exposure to electrical, mechanical, chemical, and physical hazards
- Must be able to obtain a commercial drivers license in order to operate an emergency response (Hi-Rail) equipment
- Must be able to work different shifts to respond to facilities training needs and emergencies
- Must comply with all California Occupational Safety & Health Act (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and protective gear "including but not limited" to respirators and/or hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required
- Must have normal color vision
- Must obtain rail safety and wayside worker protection safety certification
- Positions in this job classification are considered safety-sensitive and subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing, under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations
