EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTOR (ADMINISTRATION)
Pay Grade C04

Basic Function
To provide training on the documentation of maintenance and repair of revenue and non-revenue service vehicles in a field and classroom setting, including bus and rail status, preventative maintenance program documentation, maintenance records retention, administrative support, and payroll processing.

Work Environment

Examples of Duties
  • Conducts on-site division, classroom, and individualized training on all aspects of the Maintenance and Material Management System (M3), fleet assignments, road calls, Preventative Maintenance Programs (PMP), and bus and rail statuses
  • Provides training on bus and rail availability, records information on maintenance calls, scheduling for equipment inspections and maintenance, and updating of records pertaining to equipment
  • Provides instruction on inspection intervals, service calls, fire extinguisher locations, lock and key control, and non-revenue vehicles
  • Provides instruction on records maintenance and the maintenance and update of various lists, logs, and departmental records
  • Provides training on the update of personnel records, processing payroll changes, reviewing daily payroll reports for completeness and accuracy as well as processing and calculating payroll earnings for employees being terminated from service, and special payroll check requests
  • Assists in the implementation of various operations software, firmware, and hardware
  • Provides support to clerical M3 users via phone, email, and site visits
  • Prepares lesson plans, class outlines, schedules, testing, and performance exams
  • Develops technical training and testing materials
  • Coordinates training needs with operating divisions and department heads
  • Attends onsite and offsite vendor training sessions
  • Provides safety guidelines on maintenance procedures
  • Analyzes vendor training materials for accuracy and system compatibility
  • Reports to various work locations to provide training and/or technical support to maintenance personnel
  • Keeps abreast with current technology
  • Interviews and tests applicants
  • Provides orientation to personnel on recordkeeping and administrative support
  • Prepares reports and correspondence
  • Provides technical expertise to other department personnel
  • Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Theories, principles, and practices of repair and maintenance of engines, parts, system components as well as electronic and electrical diagnostics and repair vehicles
  • Equipment preventative maintenance requirements (ex intervals and cost/benefits analysis)
  • Maintenance and Material Management System (MS)
  • Safe and proper use of tools and other equipment
  • Project management techniques
  • Theories, principles and practices related to information systems
  • Administrative and payroll processing

Ability to:
  • Plan, organize and monitor training of skilled personnel in the proper use of Metro’s M3 System
  • Function as end user technical lead
  • Analyze and evaluate system changes to determine feasibility
  • Identify and resolve conflicting project and/or end user requirements
  • Prepare reports, proposals, presentations and correspondences in a professional manner
  • Meet tight time constraints and frequent deadlines
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Operate computers and M3 information kiosks
  • Understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, contracts, budgets, and labor/management agreements
  • Interact professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives
  • Travel to offsite locations within a reasonable time frame
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTOR (ADMINISTRATION) position MUST meet the following requirements:

  • 2 years’ experience conducting training in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment and utilizing a Maintenance and Material Management System to document and update bus and/or rail maintenance
  • Associates degree in a related field or recent equivalent training from a recognized trade school
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, vocational training or a teaching credential is desirable
  • Professional certificates/licenses: Vocational Training or Teaching Credential desirable
  • Valid California Class C driver’s license

  • Frequent travel to other Metro locations
  • Must comply with Metro code of ethics, policies, and procedures
