Basic Function
Under moderate supervision, processes and expedites computer run requests and controls input and output of data.

Work Environment
In order to achieve Metro’s goals in support of its mission, potential candidates are required to commit and continuously practice and demonstrate the following work values:

Examples of Duties
  • Prioritizes, expedites, and monitors computer runs as specified on work request forms
  • Operates computer terminals and peripheral equipment to control the input and output of data
  • Uses computer terminal to re-create user reports
  • Enters, edits, and verifies data
  • Proofreads computer output to determine if quality and quantity meet users’ defined requirements
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining security of Metro data processing systems, equipment, and facilities
  • Removes system output from printers and distributes to appropriate mailboxes and departments
  • Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Functions and operations of computer terminals and peripheral equipment
  • IBM Job Control Language (JCL)
  • Data processing flow charts

Ability to:
  • Follow oral and written instructions
  • Communicate effectively with others
  • Organize and prioritize work flow
  • Operate various computer terminals and peripheral equipment such as bursters and decollators
  • Operate a calculator
  • Troubleshoot and correct routine flow charts and schematics
  • Perform simple arithmetical computations
  • Adhere to production standards and deadlines
  • Lift and move computer printouts weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Interact professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives
  • Travel to offsite locations within a reasonable timeframe
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the DATA CONTROL SPECIALIST position MUST meet the following requirements:

  • 2 years of recent experience performing data control functions
