Basic Function
Under moderate supervision, maintains records and types various materials at a transportation division office. |
Classification Characteristics
Differs from General Clerk III in that Division Stenographer works at a transportation division offices while General Clerk II performs similar work at a maintenance division office. |

Examples of Duties
- Reviews, maintains, and updates personnel records and processes payroll changes

Reviews daily payroll reports for completeness and accuracy

Prepares letters, memos, forms, and reports using a typewriter or a personal computer

Posts information from logs to employee files

Maintains and updates various lists, logs, and departmental records on a daily basis

Responds to inquires from other departments and employees regarding procedures and personnel records
-
Answers telephones and acts as an office receptionist

Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- General office practices and procedures

English grammar, spelling, and punctuation

Complex recordkeeping

Ability to:
- Type 50 net words per minute

Prepare correspondence and reports and maintain complex records

File materials alphabetically, numerically, and chronologically

Operate a personal computer and a computer terminal

Deal tactfully and effectively with the public and other departmental staff

Respond appropriately to inquires and requests for information

Maintain confidentiality of materials and files

Proofread work and identify errors

Follow oral and written instructions

Read, write, speak, and understand English

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the DIVISION STENOGRAPHER position MUST meet
the following requirements:
- 1 year of experience performing clerical, typing, and stenographic duties
