DIGITAL SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN

Under moderate supervision, installs and maintains advanced computer systems including Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), and other data collection equipment. |
Digital Systems Technician is an Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) journey-level position. It differs from the Digital Systems Technician Leader (ATU) in that a Digital Systems Technician performs installs and maintains advanced computer systems including Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), and other data collection equipment while a Digital Systems Technician Leader oversees and coordinates the daily activities of a group of Digital Systems Technicians and assigns tasks within a work crew. The Digital Systems Technician Leader communicates and implements safety rules, policies, and procedures and maintains accountability for the safety of assigned employees. A Leader receives additional pay for each hour worked as stipulated by the appropriate collective bargaining agreement. Differs from Digital Technician in that Digital Systems Technician installs and maintains complex network equipment in addition to desktop computers and peripherals, while Digital Technician primarily installs and maintains basic desktop computers and peripherals. |
