Differs from Typist Clerk in that Clerk updates and maintains complex departmental records, while Typist Clerk performs routine clerical duties. |

Examples of Duties
- Types, prints, and files reports, letters, memos, and forms using a typewriter or a personal computer

Answers telephone calls and inquiries from Metro staff and/or the public regarding departmental policies and procedures and related matters

Acts as office receptionist

Operates personal computer or computer terminal to enter, revise, and recall information

Operates laser printer to produce reports and copy machine to make copies
-
Assembles printouts for review by departmental representatives

Checks various documents such as purchase requisitions and purchase orders for completeness and accuracy of information provided

Maintains and updates records such as operator restrooms, vendors lists, ATU seniority rosters, work status boards, batch reports, purchase orders, and requisitions

Composes routine correspondence in relation to assigned tasks and proofreads work

Schedules and monitors repairs of equipment by Metro staff or outside vendors
-
Records, tracks, and monitors customer relations complaints requiring replies

Opens, date stamps, and distributes mail

Monitors and orders office supplies
-
May operate Metro vehicle to pick up and deliver reports and other materials

Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- General office practices and procedures

Correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation

- Follow oral and written instructions

Type 40 net words per minute

Prepare correspondence and reports and maintain complex records

Operate word processing equipment and/or computer terminal

Proofread work and identify errors

Read, write, speak, and understand English

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the CLERK position MUST meet
the following requirements:
- 1 year of experience performing clerical and public contact duties

Special Conditions
- Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 30 pounds may be required for some assignments

Valid California Class C drivers license may be required for some positions
