Work Environment

Examples of Duties
  • Prepares basic financial reports such as balance sheets, statement of revenues & expenses, statement of cash flows and other financial reports
  • Reviews, analyzes, and invoices grants related transactions
  • Performs month-end and year-end closing activities
  • Assists auditors by providing audit schedules and other supporting documents
  • Prepares journal entries
  • Reviews purchase orders for accuracy
  • Monitors accounts receivable activities
  • Monitors accounts and contract payable activities
  • Prepares invoices and invoice-related documents
  • Expedites payment of invoices according to relevant terms and conditions
  • Analyzes state & federal grants to determine appropriate implementation of governmental regulatory requirements
  • Assists in the development and update of accounting systems, procedures, policies, and manuals
  • Performs special projects as required
  • Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Theories, principles, and practices of accounting, business finance, and financial record keeping
  • Financial analysis and research procedures
  • Principles of supervision
  • Microsoft Excel, MS Word and Powerpoint

Ability to:
  • Perform statistical and financial analyses
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and correspondence
  • Operate computers and general office equipment
  • Analyze situations, identify problems, and recommend solutions
  • Exercise judgment and creativity in making decisions
  • Think and act independently
  • Implement applicable policies and procedures
  • Compile and analyze complex data
  • Understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, contracts, budgets, and labor/management agreements
  • Interact professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the ACCOUNTANT position MUST meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree - Accounting or related field
  • 2 years' professional-level accounting experience
  • Experience with accounting software applications desirable
  • Experience as outlined above may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis
