ELECTRICIAN HELPER
Pay Grade A07
Basic Function
Under moderate supervision, performs regular and remedial maintenance on lighting apparatus at Metro's facilities, and in a learning capacity, assists Electricians in performing difficult electrical work; performs other duties as required. |
Classification Characteristics
Differs from Electrician in that the Electrician Helper works primarily on lighting apparatus and may assist the Electrician with more difficult electrical work, while the Electrician performs a wide range of journey-level electrical duties. |

Examples of Duties
- Replaces light bulbs and tubes at Metro facilities

Installs, replaces, troubleshoots, repairs, and cleans lighting related electrical apparatus

Bends, threads, and installs conduit and wiring

In a learning capacity, assists Electricians and Air Conditioning Technicians in the installation and maintenance of complex electrical and climate control equipment

Operates Metro vehicles, including trucks equipped with bucket lifts

Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Methods, materials, equipment, and safety procedures of the electrical trade

Federal, state, and local electrical codes

Lighting phase of modern building construction

Vehicle operation and safety

Ability to:
- Install and maintain lighting apparatus and wiring

Safely operate a variety of hand tools and power equipment
-
Read and interpret electrical schematics and construction blueprints for lighting circuits and installations

Follow oral and written instructions

Work at heights up to 40 feet

Lift and move objects weighing up to 75 pounds

Read, write, speak, and understand English

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the ELECTRICIAN HELPER position MUST meet
the following requirements:
- 2 years' experience performing repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment; or, successful completion of 2 years' full-time training or education in basic electrical theory, repair, maintenance, and safety procedures at a recognized trade school or apprenticeship program

Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required
