UTILITY "A" LEADER
Pay Grade A20
Basic Function
Under close supervision, performs unskilled vehicle servicing duties and cleans maintenance shop areas |
Classification Characteristics
Differs from Service Attendant Leader in that employees hired into this job prior to September 1979 were classified as Utility "A" Leader while employees hired into this job after August 1979 are classified as Service Attendant Leader. In addition to the regular Utility "A" duties, is responsible for assigning duties and directing employees in the performance of their work under the supervision of his/her immediate supervisor with whom he/she shall consult in all matters affecting such work. A Leader receives additional pay for each hour worked as stipulated by the appropriate collective bargaining agreement. |

Examples of Duties
- Checks and dispenses diesel fuel, engine oil, and engine coolant, records quantities used on paper and enters it into the VMS

Checks tire pressure and adds air when needed

Aligns bus with vacuum system and air blows debris out of coaches

Drives coaches through bus wash station
-
Parks coaches in designated areas of maintenance facility
-
Removes and replaces fare box vaults of returning coaches
-
Services maintenance trucks and other Metro vehicles
-
Moves supplies and equipment with a forklift or manually
-
Steam cleans parts and equipment
-
Cleans, sweeps, and mops vehicle interiors and maintenance facilities
-
Leads employees by assigning work and providing training
-
Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Materials and methods used in janitorial work and basic automotive servicing

Vehicle operation and safety

Ability to:
- Follow oral and written instructions

Safely operate a coach and other Metro vehicles

Tolerate exposure to noise, unpleasant odors, and outdoor work at night and in all types of weather

Lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds

Travel to offsite locations within a reasonable timeframe

Read, write, speak, and understand English

Minimum Qualifications
Potential candidates interested in the UTILITY "A" LEADER position MUST meet
the following requirements:
- Valid California Class C drivers license
|
Special Conditions
- Must successfully complete a four-day vehicle operations training program

Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required
- Positions in this classification are considered safety sensitive under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol regulations
